A MONSTER OF UNIVERSE

A black hole in attempt to eat a huge star
Still remember Apollo 11 ? it is the giant jump of human knowledge. No one believes for the first time that we are able to put the first human into the surface of the moon. It is such a great achievement.  Now, landing on the moon is not a wow story anymore. Today we are able to do more. Well, let us  look at a strange and challenge place in the universe that human being (scientists) want to go and explore-black hole. Have you ever heard that term? That sounds familiar and I think everybody knows it, at least that term. Now let us have a closer look at black hole. What is actually black hole and what makes it so interesting for some scientists ?
Imagine if you have a kilogram of iron and a kilogram of feathers. What weighs more? Iron or feather? The iron of course, it is a heavier substance. Not so. Since both the iron and the feather have a weight one kilogram, they weigh the same. The difference between the two substances that leads us intuitively to think the iron is heavier lies in a physical property of matter called density. What about the density of a black hole? Have you ever imagine how dense matter inside a black hole? In book why nothing can travel faster than light” Barry E. Zimmerman and Davis J. Zimmerman  wrote something interesting regarding to the density of black hole, of course a black hole is a matter that has a mass and density. It is the effect of the death of a star. When a star runs out its fuel, which is hydrogen (converted to helium), it collapses and becomes more and more dense. A star with the size of our sun will become a white dwarfs. But a star thesize three times or more than our sun will collapse into itself and become a strange thing-black hole. What I mean by that is more complicated especially mathematically. And it is quite difficult for some people to imagine. Let us back to our original question, how dense is matter inside black hole? We know that an atom has a core and electron (s) surrounding it. In fact 99,99 % of an atom is empty space. The iron, even thought we call it dense matter still has its 99,99 % emptiness. Now let’s imagine if we make it closer and closer. We find that matter will become more and more dense. What happen if we have an electron sticks together to the core. The electrons will be squeezed into the nucleus of the atom and will combine the protons, forming neutrons.  It such matter has never found on the earth. But we find it inside what we know as a neutron star. It contains only neutrons as a result of combination of electron and proton. This type of star is very very dense indeed. Up to one trillion times the density of liquid water or one million times as dense as the degenerate matter of white dwarf. If a baseball-size piece of a neutron star were brought to earth. It would weigh much more than the Empire state building. What about black hole? Black hole is ten times more dense than a neutron star and the density at the center of a black hole would seem to approach infinity. It is called singularity. And because of its very strong gravity it crams the mass of a huge sun into tiny point of it. It eats everything around it including light. Then we call it as a monster of universe.
